Gambling Revenues Continue To Tumble At Massachusetts State’s 3 Casinos
BOSTON (AP) — Gambling revenues continue to tumble at Massachusetts’ three casinos as the facilities face more restrictions amid the latest surge of COVID-19.
Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield and Plainridge Park generated a combined $45 million in gross gaming revenue last month, the state’s Gaming Commission reported Tuesday.
The total revenues are down from $69 million in October and roughly $70 million in September. They translate to about $13.2 million in taxes for the state, which claims 25% of gross gambling revenues from Encore and MGM and 49% of the revenues from Plainridge Park.
The casinos are operating under strict COVID precautions, including limited hours, reduced capacity at gaming tables and fewer slot machines. They’ve also curtailed other amenities, including dining and drinking options, hotels and other entertainment operations, such as spas and movie theaters.
According to the commission’s monthly report, MGM Springfield brought in $10.5 million gross gambling revenues last month. That’s down from $17.5 million in October and down from nearly $20 million last November.
Encore, meanwhile, reported $11.8 million in gross gaming revenue last month, down from $17.4 in October and down from $24.5 million last November.
Plainridge reported $7.6 million in gross gaming revenue, down from $10 million in October and nearly $11 million last November.
